The monopolisation of "Islamic economics"

Timur Kuran* asserts that 'Islamists' have monopolised the interpretation of the economic requirements of Islam. If this is so, this surely violates (the spirit of) the prohibition** of monopoly. [I am applying the dislike for monopolies in regards to goods and services to the 'market' for thoughts/understanding/ideas.]

**El-Gamal: "monopoly is quite un-Islamic."
